Rechargeable D Cell Batteries are nowadays made of Nickel-Metal Hydrides (NiMH's) instead of Nickel-cadmium (NiCad). NiMH's have higher capacity and are not poisonous. NiCad batteries were poisonous and required special disposal at the local community bin for disposing poisonous items. NiMH's batteries can be disposed in the domestic disposal bin. They do not contain toxic metals.
